Since it is my birthday week this week, I wanted to post a piece that I actually like to wear myself. It is a nostalgia piece that dates back all the way back to 1997. lol.
When I was in high school I played soccer. We played during the winter season so it would get pretty cold (by SoCal standards of course). I would wear a sweatshirt under my jersey and a knitted headband to cover my ears, and those were the only additions to my uniform. We were pretty hard core to say the least.
I remember one game it was close to snowing and our team still played with bare legs. We were crazy!
I LOVED my knitted headband. It was so snug and it kept my ears super warm. I was so thankful for it because without it I would have been in pain. While I was running the air would hit my ears and ear canals and it would sting like crazy. It was so painful!
I have so many good memories playing soccer and anytime I see or wear my headband (I still have it!) I am reminded of all the good times.
This past weekend was filled with beautiful weather: Sunny skies paired with sprinkles of rain and gorgeous cloud formations. I am completely obsessed with colorful sunsets, sunlit hills, trees, and pretty much everything outside. I love nature! It excites my eyes and heart at the same time.
Just like my love for color in nature so goes my love for color in my art. I love the colorful yarn I use for the baby headbands. It really compliments the brightness and life of a baby. They are so precious!
Since I have boys I don’t get to actually use my adorable crocheted baby headbands. I crochet beanies for my boys but I love making my friends daughters all the girly stuff I crochet.
I first made this headband in the infancy of my crocheting journey. It has become one of my signature creations. It’s so soft, stretchy, and comfy.
I wanted to make it versatile, so instead of permanently attaching a flower I made a detachable one that can be interchanged with numerous colorful flowers if desired. I think versatility with any product is fun and can make the product more useful.
These headbands will bring out the cute and sparkle in any baby who wears them.
Living in SoCal doesn’t allow me to wear a lot of the stuff I make, for functionality. I wear it for personality so much more. I have lived here all of my life so I have been pretty spoiled on the weather front.
My memories of snow are very limited. In Bakersfield, I can only remember it snowing a few times. It would only last a few hours though, especially after playing in it it would turn to muddy slush real quick.
My husband has a completely opposite experience. He grew up in PA so he knows what real seasons look like. I recently asked him how people dressed when it snowed and he told me, “we would put on a couple of layers and then a jacket.” I asked him, “well, what kind of jacket? Like a ski jacket?” He said, “no, just a regular jacket.” Ok ok so I kept asking him more questions like, “what kind of shoes did you wear? Snow boots?” He responded, “Sometimes. And sometimes just regular shoes.” Can you imagine if I tried to go out in the snow, I mean the REAL snow. People would know that I’m from out of town and I would totally over do it. You can bet that I would be wearing everything that I have ever crocheted though. Ha!
Sometimes I wish it would snow out here so I could wear my infinity scarf with buttons. I wear it anyway, to sort of protect myself from vampires. Just sayin’.
One of the most memorable moments of this past week was spending time with a good friend of mine and teaching her how to crochet. I realized that I haven’t had the opportunity to really teach anyone how to crochet and I loved it.
I watch a lot of crochet videos, especially from Crochet Geek, Teresa. You can find Teresa on most social networks. I watch most of her videos through YouTube.
Teaching my friend how to crochet made me consider doing my own videos of crochet projects. This is obviously something I might try in the near future. Not right now. I have to get used to this digital world. Tis a crazy interesting world, indeed, but I am fascinated and I’m never going back to sole pen and paper gal status.
Years ago, I think maybe 6, I was invited to a very fancy shmancy Christmas party where a bunch of us gals came together and celebrated with foods, fun, an ornament exchange, and girl talk. My friend who hosts the party does such an awesome job and we always have a great time. That year I wanted to make something that was cute, memorable, and sweet for all the gals. I decided to make up my own pattern and I made like 20 keychain purses.
Halfway through I realized I bit off more than I could chew because my fingers were throbbing and I couldn’t see the end of the project. It was definitely great practice though.
To my extreme delight all of the gals absolutely loved the keychain purses! It made all the blood, sweat and tears worth it. I realized that I made something that was worth some value based on the reaction, and a change occurred.
I think a lot of artists struggle with the value of their art or people seeing their art as “good”. I remember one time in college one of my friends started flipping through a sketchbook of mine and I became so nervous and anxious. It was as if he was reading my diary or something because my artwork is like the outpouring of my heart.
I felt vulnerable and exposed. He was very sweet and loved a lot of my artwork. I then understood that I was holding myself back by worrying about people thinking my art was ugly. From then on I started the process of sharing my art and miscellaneous projects more and trying to take feedback constructively.
When I started crocheting people were constantly telling me that I should sell my items. It took awhile but after the reaction from the crocheted keychain purses I finally took the plunge. I am so glad I did and I always look at my cute little keychain purses as the catalyst on my journey.
Valentine’s day is just 5 days away so in honor of all the love I am introducing my crocheted puffy sweet hearts! Let me just say that hearts are some of my favorite things ever, so when I learned how to make these adorable puffy hearts I had to make them available to the world.
I am aware that I should have launched the blog a bit earlier so that people could actually purchase these for Valentine’s Day, but it just wasn’t possible. So, although you might not get them in time for Valentine’s you are more than welcome to acquire some for any other day of the year…especially since we should show people love everyday, not just Valentine’s Day.
Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog shop! This is where I will be blogging about my treasured works of art and making them available for purchase. My husband and I talked about building me a website years ago and now it has finally happened. I have a shop on Etsy but I really wanted to talk about and present my crafts in a way that is more personable and colorful.
I have always been artistic since I was a wee lass. I’m a born creative who can’t get enough of the visual. I’m serious. Even when I hear music I create an art piece in my mind to accompany it. If a movie or video has a killer soundtrack along with crazy awesome visuals then I. AM. SOLD. I will listen and watch it over and over and over again and never tire of it…. just ask my husband.
Art is in my blood. I am a painting crocheting tap dancing wife/mama who uses my skills and talents to speak. This is the way I have always expressed myself.
I began crocheting in 2008 and I haven’t stopped since. It is such a practical art form that has a tangible functional end result. I absolutely LOVE making things for people…even people I don’t know! There’s something so lovely about a complete stranger being blessed by something you made for them.
I am more than happy to start this blogging journey. I can’t wait to begin sharing about cherished crocheted items, art pieces, and anything else that I feel inspired to create.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog shop and supporting it. It means the world to me.
