• Celebrate Your Inner Ewok

    Celebrate Your Inner Ewok

With Halloween coming up I had to think quick for costume ideas. It was pretty last minute, especially because I try to make the costumes. As a crocheter I look up pieces that I could, well, crochet.. lol.

Since the new Star Wars movie is coming out I had the idea that I could go as Princess Leia, and my husband Dustin could be Han Solo. Then I thought we could dress the boys as Yoda and Chewy or Ewoks.

Since I only had my hair as part of the costume and couldn’t crochet anything really to be Leia, I didn’t think that would work. I also didn’t want my husband to shave his beard to be Han Solo so that wasn’t going to happen. I stuck with the Ewok idea though for our whole family and went on Pinterest to see if there were any patterns available.

Sure enough, one of the first pins was an Ewok scoodie (scarf/hoodie) pattern from tinypurrs.com. I was so excited! I had to have four of them finished in four days for our Trunk-or-Treat at church.

Could I do it? I wasn’t sure but I was ready to challenge myself. I set to work and there were times throughout the week that I was getting pain in my fingers and I was like “what the heck is going on?! Why are my fingers hurting?”. Then I realized it was because I was a mad woman crocheting up a storm!

Low and behold I was able to finish the Ewok scoodies.

    Order Yours

It was totally worth it and we were able to wear them this past Saturday at our church’s Trunk-or-Treat. It was a blast!

There were a few people who asked about the Ewok scoodies and where they could buy them. I was kicking myself for not having business cards, but I thought LadyLion.co was kind of easy to remember.

With Halloween just days away I am now chillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool and all shootin’ some b-ball…..just kidding. But seriously, I get to relax and not worry about making our costumes because I have already put in the work.

It’s so fun to see what everyone dresses up as for Halloween. What are you and your family dressing up as for Halloween this year?

  • Babies Galore!

    Babies Galore!

So many of our friends are having babies this year, so I have been able to put my skills to work big time. I am not complaining at all because I absolutely love making my friends babies all the cute crocheted keepsakes. My friend Kayla is having a baby girl in November and she just recently had her baby shower. I ended up making her a couple of headbands and some neutral colored boat booties. I knew she didn’t care too much for pink so that’s why I went with a neutral color. I came across a free pattern from whistleandivy.com. Please check out their website for free awesome beautiful patterns.

I think they came out pretty cute and I am excited to keep making them. I’m looking forward to see how they look with different colors. What colors would you like for the baby boat booties? I want to try a sparkly hot pink or a coral color.

What I am also excited about is that these baby boat booties are adorable for both boys and girls. I have a more difficult time making stuff for boys because you can only crochet so many things for them and then it just gets too girly. When a friend has a baby girl I get so excited because I have a wide range of things I can make. For boys, crocheted keepsakes are a bit more limited. What do you think?

Thanks for checking in and reading about my latest creation! Cheers!

  • Who needs make-up?

    Who needs make-up?

Ok, so I don’t wear very much make-up throughout the week but I absolutely need a cute functional make-up bag that can hold all my stuff. Honestly, I have things in my make-up bag that I only wear like once a month. I break all the rules! I’m totally kidding. Not about the once a month part though.

I have had the same make-up bag for…ever. And when I say make-up bag I mean cute little clutchy type purse. I use small purses sometimes to hold my make-up. This purse was on it’s last leg though and I desperately needed a new bag. I had been putting it off and every time I would bring my make-up bag out it would start crumbling everywhere. (think paint chipping off of something) It was really strange.

I finally set to work on making myself a cute/different type of bag that was the perfect size. Needless to say I am SO happy with the end result and I keep looking at it everyday, amazed that I actually made it! I do that a lot. When I make something I sometimes look at it and don’t believe that I made it with my own two hands. Such a weird feeling. Anyway, I have made this available in my shop, so if you like it as much as I do then buy one for your own trinkets and make-up and such. Thanks friends! Cheers!

  • Crochet Donation Project

    Crochet Donation Project

Last month we were preparing for my husbands departure to Social Media Marketing World and it took us a while to get back into the swing of things. My husband had a blast and even though I loved spending alone time with my boys I definitely needed a break.

I am so excited to share about a donation I had the privilege of being a part of. My cousin Teri let me know that her daughter’s school, Capitol Hill Cooperative Preschool, was having an auction and if I wanted to donate some of my crocheted items. I thought it was such a wonderful idea and I was so happy to begin crocheting!

First, I made an adult infinity scarf. I used chunky wool ease yarn in 3 different colors. It came out so nice! I loved it so much and kept the pattern so I could make more.

I included a few bath scrubbies that I just love to make. They are so swirly and colorful!

I also included some of my favorite sweethearts.

I made a new pattern for a slouchy child beanie and I was so glad that it turned out as well as it did. I also included a baby headband with a heart instead of a flower, and a little heart swirl that can be worn on a clip.

The picture shows all the items ready to be shipped. I loved making these for my cousin’s preschool auction. I hope to do many more projects like this one in the future.

  • Work of HeArt

    Work of HeArt

I intended on sharing this post yesterday, but I didn’t finish the painting in time. I have been working on this painting for 3 months. The reason it took me so long was that I was working on other stuff (crocheting, blog, raising babies, etc). I really wanted to do something that gave me free range and allowed me to “doodle”. This piece totally gave me that.

Awhile back I went to one of those fun ceramic painting places with a group of friends and I bit off way more than I could chew. A lot of times I take on a big challenge and end up stressing myself out, and that is exactly what I did. I chose a plate and wanted to do intricate Mexican type art, so I ended up rushing in the end, because it was taking me FOREVER.

What I didn’t know was that if you didn’t finish you could take your piece home and come back at a different time. What?! I was making so many mistakes and getting really sloppy because I was in a rush. I wish I knew that at the beginning. It ended up turning out okay, but it inspired me to work on something just as intricate with all the time in the world.

I gifted this plate to my Step Mom in Law for Christmas. In the end I was really proud of it as my first piece and I was so happy to give it to her.

I am a young padwan when it comes to Mexican art. Yes, I am Mexican, but I just started getting into my cultural art. For most of my life I have been obsessed with drawing faces and abstract art (one of my favorite artists is Salvador Dali so surrealism is also an influence). So far, I have noticed that it is based on a lot of floral leaf elements. The designs are consistent and form patterns. Oh my gosh and the colors are just extensive and bursting with life. Some pieces can be more colorful than others but there is no doubt that there are beautiful color combinations.

This painting that I have called “Ivory Garden” has subtle color in the background, but all of the foreground strokes of the painting are in white. I must confess that I am a bit obsessed with white. I love designs in the color of white. I will definitely be making more colorful paintings in the future though.

The dimensions of the painting are 24 x 18. It’s a medium size that’s perfect for a small wall space. If you are interested in purchasing this piece please contact me through my contact page. There is only one so supplies are limited to one. lol.

This piece really was a work of heArt. I enjoyed everything about it and I know it’s only the beginning. I wanted to post a picture showing a bit of the detail that went into this piece. It’s no wonder it took me 3 months! Here’s to making and painting memories! Cheers!
